PANGASINAN’S TOP DESTINATIONS

LINGAYEN—The Basilica of Our Lady of Manaoag continues to be the province’s top tourist destination but the Provincial Capitol Complex in Lingayen has overtaken the Hundred Islands National Park (HINP) as second with the most number of tourist arrivals last year.

This was announced by Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office (PTCAO) chief Luisa Elduayan on the occasion of the observance of Tourism Month this September.

Eduayan said the Provincial Capitol Complex, which includes the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center, accounted for more than one million visitors last year and has grown to become the second top tourist destination in Pangasinan.

The Basilica is on top with more than eight million devotees and pilgrims that visited it last year.

The Hundred Islands National Park (HINP) registered more than 500,000 domestic and foreign visitors.

Other top major destinations last year were Bolinao, Balungao Hot Springs, the Sunflower Maze in Tayug, and the Redeemer’s Cross in Natividad mountain.

According to Elduayan, the provincial capitol complex boasts of its Sison Auditorium and the Pangasinan Trade and Development Center (PTDC) which is the regular venue of the so-called MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Events) under the administration of Gov. Amado Espino III.

These two, including the NRSCC, enabled Pangasinan to become the largest convention center in the north today.

The renovated Provincial Capitol continues to host the Lakbay Aral of officials and employees of local government units and agencies wanting to benchmark Pangsinan’s best practices in local governance.

The latest group to visit the province under Lakbay Aral were members of the the League of Vice Governors.

She also cited the Baywalk, now a regular venue for health buffs and the permanent venue for national triathlon events. (Leonardo Micua)
